I have over ten years of professional experience in river and inland waterway studies. I have been involved in and in charge of consultancy and research projects dealing with navigability of inland waterways, river hydraulics and morphology, and numerical modelling. Within Deltares I work as portfolio manager of inland waterways and navigation projects (specialized consultancy and research). The portfolio consists of: • projects in which the consequences of (environmental, infrastructural, climate) changes on navigation are investigated, and • projects in which the effect of navigation on the infrastructure is investigated, and• projects that contribute to a more resilient, efficient, sustainable, safe inland waterway transport (IWT). Some examples of work I perform with a team are studies to reach a more climate-resilient inland waterway system, water depth forecasting for navigational purposes, I am involved in the Dutch CoVadem initiative, the impact of ship’s propeller jets on bed and banks, and the consequences of longitudinal training walls on navigation. I was a member of the PIANC WG210 working group on Smart Shipping. I am co-chair of PIANC WG249 working group 'Adaptation of Inland Waterways Infrastructure for Climate Change Impacts'.I work together with knowledge institutes on logistics and maritime, governmental organizations, port authorities, universities, engineering firms, and contractors in order to contribute to the ambition of a robust, reliable, efficient and sustainable transport of goods over water. I seek opportunities to bring developed knowledge into practice. I have knowledge on the use of rivers as an inland waterway, while also accounting for the other functions a river has.
