From the Dutch Smart Shipping Forum (SMASH!) the Workgroup USV's (Unmanned Surface Vessels) was established in October 2023. The workgroup exists of ~40 Dutch USV operators, designers, builders, insurance companies, governmental institutes, regulators and research institutes. The workgroup anticipates to enhance large scale implementation of Dutch USV's. This, by acting as a single point of contact to the USV stakeholders and by continued development along the perceived USV roadmap.

Initiating and managing of R&D projects, mainly in relation to Autonomous Shipping.Introducing new working methodologies within the engineering team and identify new development areas within C-Job.

Primary managing project teams involved in structural design, structural analysis following class rules and direct calculations by means of finite element analysis. As a secondary role, I am involved in the initiation and carrying out of R&D projects. Currently, these are mainly focused on Autonomous Shipping.

After my initiation of this new R&D project I became responsible for the transfer of R&D tasks to other departments within Damen Gorinchem. This, by means of the development of software tools and providing trainings and presentations.

The main content of my role as development engineer is the (conceptual) structural design of ship structures. The primary focus is on Offshore- and Special vessels within Damen. Mostly, my advices follow from dedicated FEM analyses which I initiate, guide and check. The analyses are related to structural strength, stiffness, fatigue and vibrations. Mainly, the shipstructures exist of steel or aluminium. If required, casco inspections are carried out by me, followed by possible improvements. Sales questions in relation to structures are investigated by me and sound solutions proposed.
