Our shorter term goal is to invent more energy-efficient and capable hardware for challenging computational problems. In the longer term, we seek to shed light on the underlying computing principles used by biology (brains) while inventing new ones of our own.The PGI-15 (Neuromorphic Software Ecosystem, Peter Grünberg Institute 15) is researching answers to the neuromorphic software question by developing neuromorphic computer technologies that learn and work like the brain. To achieve this, our research team develops new computer algorithms and computer architectures from the perspective of neuroscience and their physical implementation in dedicated circuits and devices. Applications of our research aim at improving computer vision algorithms for autonomous controls, data processing in mobile and wearable devices, and expanding scientific data analysis.As Scientific IT Manager of PGI-14 and PGI-15, I am responsible for the scientific IT infrastructure of both institutes. I am responsible for the computing infrastructure of the institutes, be it supercomputer equipment, software, management of computing resources or the specific technical needs of our researchers. Therefore, I have a real interest in participating in modern AI/mathematics research, working with big data, and finding new ways to apply the latest supercomputing technologies. -
