• Covered five unincorporated towns, and their representation in county government, one city, a transit district, two municipal airports and two school districts.• Attended and reported on government (city council, board of supervisors, municipal advisory committees and community service districts), as well as the meetings of agencies that operate within those areas.• Built relationships with government employees, elected officials and the public to generate stories and keep abreast of issues facing these communities. • Multitasked to meet multiple deadlines each day with stories, photo assignments. Scheduled appointments and interviews with multiple people each day. • Reported about 45 law enforcement agencies, fire departments, superior court, sheriff’s department, and the sixth largest county jail in the country. • When not busy breaking stories, covering spot news, and posting news items online, generated features, followed other reporters’ breaking news into the evening, and monitored reports on a police scanner, two wires, and television reports.• Edited online stories for print the next day, coordinated with other reporters and editors by compiling lists of relevant leads to follow, set up interviews, worked within a timeframe given by editors, and prioritized numerous duties, as well as attended public meetings and responded to reader inquiries. • Wrote about the success of civilian police oversight following the accidental shooting of an unarmed man by a former Bay Area transit police officer.• Broke a national story about a local woman who murdered her pro poker player husband in Las Vegas. The story led to my appearance on a national television program.• Initiated a countywide investigation of its approval process policy for meteorological towers with a series of stories following the airplane crash death of an agricultural pilot.
