About Romola Bucks

Pro Vice Chancellor Health and Medical Research (UWA) and Director of The Raine Study, rainestudy.org.au, and Professor in the School of Psychological Science, at the University of Western Australia, my research focuses on cognitive and affective consequences of typical ageing, and of conditions that contribute to cognitive decline and increase risk of dementia. I work with people with Parkinson's, Sleep Apnoea, anxiety and depression. I am a passionate teacher and research supervisor, who is committed to mentoring young scientists.     Based in Perth, the Raine Study is Australia's longest running public health study and one of the most successful population health studies to be undertaken anywhere in the world. Since 1989, the Raine Study has studied the same group of nearly 3000 young Western Australian's from before they were born, their parents, grandparents and now offspring. Data from the Raine Study were used to establish international guidelines for ultrasound in pregnancy and continue to be used by researchers around the world to inform and improve public health policy.
