Romy is people-orientated passionate teacher licensed, through the Ontario College of Teachers, to teach grades K-12. With over fifteen years as an educator, she has extensive experience in various curricula and countries. Teaching overseas, in various international schools including Frankfurt, Germany, Kampala, Uganda and Beijing, China, she has been exposed to various cultures and approaches to education within the framework of the International Baccalaureate. Two years ago, Romy returned to Hamilton, where she grew up. She is excited to be currently working for the Hamilton-Wentworth District School board, the same board in which she completed her own education. Romy’s educational philosophy is that building relationships is the foundation of teaching. She is a natural communicator committed to providing a safe, encouraging and effective learning environment built on mutual respect and trust. She strongly believes relationships are built and fostered through professional development opportunities and taking on various roles within communities.She has been eagerly extending her knowledge of the Ontario curriculum and school system, by engaging in various professional opportunities. She will ETFO’s general meeting in August 2018 as the member at large representative of her union. She is currently completing her AQ in Special Education Part I, feeling this an essential part of supporting all learners in the classroom. Romy is very eager to become more involved in the Hamilton community, which is why she recently volunteered for the Hamilton Jewish Education Committee. She continues to advocate for experiential learning, science outreach, and hopes to continue the cultivation of STEM learning through such things as inquire-based teaching in the classroom, be it at the elementary or secondary level. When not teaching, Romy can be found planning her next travels around the world, reading or more recently, getting back into martial arts.
