She is well known for genuinely consulting with industries, communities and other stakeholders. Her work has influenced government policies and programs, and resulted in business management responses. Her contribution to behavioural economics--about motivations, attitudes and risk preferences influencing farmers' adoption of conservation practices--is world-class. Other research topics have included improved rural livelihoods and indigenous wellbeing, water and catchment management, energy management, land management, aquatic, coastal and marine resource use, biodiversity conservation and sustainable tourism.
