Chugach National Forest

My current position is working as an aquatic program biologist for the Chugach National Forest, Alaska responsible for a Forest riparian/aquatic fisheries habitat management, protection, rehabilitation, and enhancement program.

Prepared plans for response to hazardous substances and weapons of mass destruction incidents involving both fixed facilities and transportation corridors throughout Federal Region 10; assuring compliance with the National Response Plan (NRP) and the National Incident Management System (NIMS)/Incident Command System (ICS). I represented FEMA on the Alaska Regional Response Team, the Northwest Regional Response Team, and the Pacific States/British Columbia Oil Spill Task Force. I attended the Washington State Emergency Response Commission (SERC) and selected Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) meetings to better coordinate the FEMA review of the Northwest Area Contingency Plan and the Alaska Area Contingency Plan as they related to the National Contingency Plan (NCP) and the NRP. I responded to Stafford Act hurricane responses as Community Relations staff to South Carolina, as the FEMA State Liaison to North Carolina, and as the Chief of Staff to Oregon; I reviewed and coordinated the distribution of the annual CERCLA HazMat Grants, and SARA Title III Tribal Grants to qualified applicants.

As a Research Scientist for the UW Alaska Salmon Program in the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences, I coordinated the logistical operations for the field research program.

Mcmurdo Station, Antarctica

I coordinated stateside operations of an Antarctic project prior to deployment to the ice. I managed the National Science Foundation funding balances, procured field and research equipment, and organized the shipping logistics through the U.S. Navy Support Force. In Antarctica, I participated on the SCUBA diving team investigating under ice environments and logging 157 dives collecting marine invertebrates. In the laboratory, my work consisted of dissection of invertebrates, light microscopy, growth experiments, photoperiod experiments, and histological sample preparation. I was a member of the winter-over search and rescue team and a volunteer fireman.
