Innovating at the edge of oligonucleotide chemistry and applications since 1979, blending Entrepreneurship, Chemistry, invention, and common sense business instincts. As Founder-CEO of Biosearch, Inc, developed first commercial Oligo synthesizer (SAM I) in 1981 which enabled invention of PCR by Kary Mullis while at Cetus (see Nobel address). Consulted with Stephen Bunting-Abingworth/Shankar Balasubramanian during early years of Solexa (1997-2000, founding shareholder). Awarded 8 SBIR grants as PI providing >$10 mil in funding. Invented and branded Black Hole Quenchers for Multiplexed Q-PCR; Invented and branded Cal-Dyes, Quasar Dyes for Q-PCR. Created Stellaris product line for sm-RNA FISH in 2010 (Tyagi and Raj inventors). Divested Biosearch Technologies to LGC Group (2015). Cofounded Optical Biosystems with Josh Ryu (2016).
