Formerly an engineer and consultant (with MBA) in the aerospace, electrical, electronics, and personal products industries, but now I use those talents for solving clients' legal problems — often by "thinking outside the box".My practice is primarily litigation, and that litigation includes: family law (including custody, support, alienation of affections and criminal conversation as well as domestic violence and domestic violence restraining orders), criminal law, contracts, civil-rights violations, elder abuse, farm nuisance and contracts claims, timber harvesting contracts and claims, and whatever case makes me say, "They can't really think they will get away with that, can they?".As a martial artist for the last 35 years with a 4th degree black-belt in Judo and a 5th degree black-belt in Neko-Ryu Goshin-Jitsu I have been intimately involved in martial arts litigation as an attorney, consultant, and as an expert witness.I mediate disputes and serve as a client representative in mediation and negotiations for attorneys, individuals & companies. I have negotiated wind-farm contracts on behalf of landowners and business purchase agreements.Although I'm in court all the time, I recently had a first when I won a week long "Alienation of Affections" jury trial. To say my client was happy would have been an understatement! It's pretty rare for an Alienation of Affections case to get to trial so many lawyers never get one of these cases. This was my first, but from all the calls it brought me, it likely wasn't my last.Saturday I taught my first continuing Continuing Education class for North Carolina lawyers. It was nice to be recognized as an authority among my peers — and it was fun teaching!
