Ron’s experience spans design, implementation and operations, including financing and strategy, of large critical networks.Ron has been working with networks since 1988 and Internet systems since 1992. He has played a significant role in the evolution of Internet in Manitoba. He managed MBnet, a primary Internet gateway for Manitoba, during the commercialization of the Internet, in 1995. Ron was involved in the first offering of cable modems as well as the 2nd implementation via DOCSIS. Ron has been directly involved in advanced ultra-high-speed Research and Education networks (MRnet connecting to Canarie). He has experience with each iterative technology advancement, including T3 (45mbps); ATM; dark fiber IRUs; wave division multiplexing; right up to 100g wavelength services. Ron’s expertise includes switching and routing technologies: BGP; MPLS; IPv6 using Cisco and Juniper equipment as well as the back-end UNIX servers and services required to operate, manage and support IP networks.Ron has being building fiber optic infrastructure in Manitoba since 2003; fixed wireless systems, since 2000; and Enterprise WiFi and 802.1X authentication, since 2004. From 2017 to present, he was instrumental in the FTTH project in Hamiota, Manitoba.Ron has also participated on boards and has done some work in other countries, such as Africa. He is involved with local Internet exchange and Smart City initiatives.
