This allowed real estate based lending over longer terms by developing a secondary market for mortgage loans.

Took over as CEO of troubled venture capital based company manufacturing and developing hardware and software for production control of large printing companies.Company grew from $3 million annual revenue with large losses to profitable company doing $20 million revenue when acquired. Joined this $100MM company public company traded on the Nasdaq National Market as CFO and was promoted to Group Vice President in charge of the financial function, a captive leasing company and profit responsibility for two operating divisions. Recruited away to position of CEO of a venture capital based hardware/software company.

Joined company when it was the largest recently formed biotechnology company. Hired to manage its initial public offering which was accomplished in February 1982 and was - at that time - the largest initial public offering in the history of the stock markets. Raised an additional $105 million the following year via a public research and development partnership developed by us and Lehman Brothers investment bankers. The company invented the Polymerase Chain Reaction method of replicating DNA and the company scientist who headed this team received the Nobel Prize. This invention made possible all of the DNA testing and identification used by medicine and law enforcement today. The company was sold after I left and is now Chiron Corporation.

Worked out of the San Francisco office of McKinsey & Company. Left full time position in 1976 to develop two small businesses but continued a half time consultant with McKinsey for the next three years because of a particular expertise I had developed which was vital to one of their largest worldwide practice areas.
