About Ron Heft

AccomplishmentsWhen I was with Caltech’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory I was the system engineer for the ASAS tactical intelligence system which contributed to victory in Operation Desert Storm. As the system engineer I managed the system engineering team, chaired the design team and had responsibly from user requirements to field operational test at Fort Hood Texas. I brought the US DOT’s National ITS Architecture from proposal to successful completion. My proposal won the program in competition with five other nation laboratories. The National ITS Architecture forms the foundation of DOT ITS programs and standards. I was the co-founder of the VII Consortium and established the cooperative agreement with US DOT. With Ralph Robinson of Ford and Chris Wilson of Chrysler I believed a proof of concept and the harmonization of precompetitive factors would speed the commercialization of automotive DSRC technology.
