During a recent visit to a school in Ohio, the Principal was quoted as saying, "What stood out to me was how Ron was able to gear his activities and discussion and information so it was meaningful to students whether they were in kindergarten or fifth grade."This sums the way I work, always trying as best I can to focus attention on the interests of each child. My hope is to inspire them to become writers, artists, and scientists as they continue their life long learning. At the same time, I have had many experiences in which I helped kids make their community and world a better place. I've helped many schools with outdoor learning experiences, even working in after school projects like Nick's Lagoon in Seabeck, Washington where we actually raised 3/4 of a million dollars to acquire and set aside an entire estuary valued for its salmon habitat.More typical author visits see me used as a writer and ecologist. Kids ask questions about thier own work and we then proceed to create books together. I love to write and create art with young people.

Our Three Bears and Lions Tigers and Bears are good examples and available from Amazon or any bookstore. Searching for Grizzlies features field notes from my journals along with Tom's spectacular images of bears in the Greater Yellowstone. I lived and worked there for five years and so, have had many chances to explore the park and its surrounding land and waterscapes. Grizzlies are so amazing and I count myself as fortunate to have observed their behavior and to have shared it with kids in a personal way in this book.
