I have more than 51 years of advancement experience-25 of those years in leadership positions as VP or Senior VP at liberal arts institutions or major medical centers ( Colgate, Bates, Trinity, Albany Medical Center and The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia); and now more than 12 years as a campaign and advancement consultant. Well versed in all aspects of advancement work, including annual funds, planned gifts, major gifts, grant writing, prospect research, communications, marketing, alumni relations, comprehensive campaigns; as well as staffing Boards and Presidents. As a line officer, I was involved in 9 successful comprehensive campaigns, including 6 directed personally. And in my senior roles, among those I have recruited and helped nurture professionally, there are 21 colleagues who have gone on to become College,Hospital or Private School Vice Presidents in Advancement, Admissions, and Finance, respectively. After retiring from Trinity College (Hartford, CT.) in 2012, I have developed a consulting practice that is currently engaged with Bowdoin, Lawrenceville, Phillips Exeter Academy, Emma Willard School, Blair Academy, Deerfield Academy, Germantown Friends School, Indian Mountain School, and Maine Coast Heritage Trust. Bowdoin College recently completed a school record $543M campaign. Earlier, Lawrenceville completed a campaign that raised $475.8 million, a national record for independent schools. Another long term client, Good Shepherd Food Bank, exceeded its $250 million goal a year ahead of schedule. An additional long term client, Holy Cross, concluded a record setting comprehensive campaign, exceeding its $400 million goal. Two clients, Blair and Emma Willard, are trending to significantly exceed campaign goals well in advance of school deadlines. I have also provided prior campaign consulting and/or advancement audit services to Colgate, Skidmore, Choate, The University of St. Joseph, Adirondack Medical Center, Fairfield Prep, Taft, Southwest Vermont Health Center, Cheverus High School, and Safe Passage, an NGO with its principal work in Guatemala. I served in the United States Marine Corps. I am a Colgate University graduate, as well as Trustee Emeritus of the University. Previously, I was President and now Life Member of Colgate's Alumni Council. I reside, with my wife, in Yarmouth, Maine. We have three married sons and seven grandchildren.
