Senior Electrical Engineer IIIProject Manager and Lead Engineer for the development of a Control Area Network Bus (CANBus) system for the T282 400 ton haul truck. Developed the CANBus backbone, wrote PLC code, using CODESYS an IEC 61131-3 compliant software, to poll the CANBus devices on the network. CODESYS included an HMI for writing data with graphics to a display on the truck. Used System Engineering and Project Management principles with presentations to stakeholders, wrote a development plan, procured equipment, and hired an additional programmer. Recognized by management for resolving problems with innovative solutions; e.g. a product development of a CANbus 400 ton payload-monitoring system (calculated the weight of the payload) for new and retrofitted super hauler trucks. Great reviews from customers.Saved thousands of dollars per truck by removing significant amounts of point-to-point wiring in cost, installation, and weight by using a single CANBus cable. Managed/engineered product development of four specialized CANopen gateway devices specific to the needs of the project. Conducted a Make-or-Buy analysis for the four products realizing significantly lower development costs by negotiating and placing outside contracts; in-house development estimates were 250% higher than negotiated contract prices.Developed a fan control system that incorporated a Proportional/Integral (PI) controller, using an IEC 61131-3 compliant PLC, to reduce fan noise generating sales for the LME super haul trucks and saving 40% per fan control system versus the previous controller.
