Select the best unsigned young talent in Australia from trials in most States across the country. The first winner was Tommy Rogic from Canberra who I nominated. Tommy won a place at the Nike Academy in England and then signed a professional contract with Central Coast Mariners in the Hyundai "A" League and played for the Australian Olympic Team in 2012. Tommy has since made his full international debut and signed for Celtic FC in Scotland.

Scouting and performance analysis for the National Team for the World Cup in 2006 and 2010 the Asian Cup in 2011 and World Cup qualification matches for 2014. The scouting and analysis was also provided for the Olympic team in Athens 2004, Beijing in 2008 and for the qualification matches for London 2012.

I spent 4 years as assistant coach before taking over the role of Head Coach in 1986. The task was to identify and develop players for the national youth team (U19) initially and eventually for the senior national team the Socceroos. Many of the long serving players in the national team have graduated from the AIS during my time and that of my assistants, Gary Cole, Steve O'Connor, Tom Sermanni and Mike Milovanovic. Some of the long serving players for the national team include, Frank Farina, Rodney Brown, Tony Franken, Andrew Bernal, Ned Zelic, Shaun Murphy, Dominic Longo, Jason Van Blerk, Jason Polak, Alistair Edwards, Paul Trimboli, Steve Horvat, Mark Viduka, Brett Emerton, Craig Moore, Vince Grella, Josip Skoko, Lucas Neill and Josip Simunic who played more than 100 matches for and captained Croatia at the World Cup in 2006.
