Ron Weeks, global application technology leader at Dow, has been with the company for 15 years and can speak more about this topic and the future of sustainable flooring. Ron is Dow’s Application Technology Leader for Infrastructure applications, which includes flooring, roofing, paving and decking applications. In this role, Ron works to satisfy customer needs using Dow’s diverse thermoplastic resin portfolio.During the last 35 years, Ron has held roles that range from production to resin design (R&D) to technical service. He understands not only what Dow’s resins deliver in performance, but also how they processes on equipment. He has worked with a wide range of conversion technologies including blown film, cast film, extrusion coating, injection molding and dispersion coating. He is familiar with many applications ranging from health and hygiene to automotive, but has spent the last 12 years focusing on the flooring industry and implementing a variety of products related to commercial and residential carpet and multilayer flooring, including luxury vinyl tile (LVT) and olefin alternatives. More specifically, Ron has been focused on using olefins as alternatives to vinyl in carpet tiles and multilayer flooring in order to develop more recyclable formulations and incorporate recycled carpet and other post-consumer recycled (PCR) content into new flooring.
