Automation TechnicianJohn Wiley And Sons Feb 2004 - Oct 2013Utilizing AppleScripts, I automate the process of "pouring" Word files and graphics into book templates. The term "pouring" refers to the process of importing the text received from the editors into Quark or InDesign templates, running search & replace routines to substitute replacement codes with their intended characters, import art & figures, and resize the figure boxes. All of this happens automatically and with a lot more speed and precision than a person would be able to do. From there, the chapters go to the layout techs for tweaking and cleanup that the scripts cannot do. I need to be familiar with the processes and functions of the scripts and also be very proficient in both QuarkXPress and InDesign.
