Because of my interest in hand prostheses and orthoses I have joined the board of the The Hand Fund in 2015. I am mainly responsible for managing the finances, but I am also actively involved in website design and maintenance.

Within the Symbionics research program, I was responsible for research on novel tools and technologies to be used in dynamic hand orthoses (e.g. hand exoskeletons), with applications for stroke patients and boys that suffer from Duchenne muscular dystrophy. As part of my PhD project I had the opportunity to visit the global headquarters of Festo in Esslingen am Neckar (Germany). Together with the research department on Microsystems and the Bionic Learning Network I was able to learn from their expertise in miniature valve design and overall prototyping and experimentation. In particular, I examined whether we can leverage the knowledge in pneumatics for the development of miniature hydraulic systems in a hand orthosis.

As a DTP employee I was responsible for transferring and sometimes coding content from one platform to another for e-learning projects. Common projects involved converting folio assignments into a content management system (CMS) used by the client.

As part of my MSc program on Biomedical Engineering, I visited the Institute of Biomedical Engineering in Fredericton (Canada) as a research intern. My main responsibility was to work with the Microsoft Kinect and whether it could be used as a novel assessment tool for motion analysis of upper limb prosthetic users. This included tasks in image processing, processing kinematic data and performing experiments with people with an upper limb prosthesis.
