Chief Ronald L. DePompa was employed by the Glendale Police Department for the past 36 years. As the Chief of Police, he provided executive oversight for the department's four operational divisions. Over the course of his career, Chief DePompa served as the commander for each these operational divisions, providing him with a broad base of organizational experience. Chief DePompa has completed the California Law Enforcement Command College and the FBI National Academy. He also holds an “Executive” level certification from the California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training, as well as Management, Supervisory, and Advanced Certificates. During his career, Chief DePompa was responsible for establishing community policing, crime analysis, and a special weapons and tactics (SWAT) team within the department. He was also instrumental in leading strategic planning efforts to improve community policing services; establish county-wide radio communications interoperability; enhance homeland security planning and response capability; and strengthen city-wide disaster and emergency preparedness. Chief DePompa also directed the reorganization of the department utilizing an “area command” model, employing an information-rich environment and predictive policing strategies to direct crime-fighting resources. Chief DePompa was committed to building strong community partnerships, supported by state of the art technology, crime analysis, and the forensic sciences to ensure public safety. Recently, Chief DePompa led the Police Department in completing an accredited DNA Laboratory, the first of its kind in local municipal law enforcement. Chief DePompa has also provided leadership in the development of regional policing concepts, to include a joint air support effort; a Eurasian Organized Crime task force; county-wide AB109 (Realignment) compliance/crime suppression teams; and a Tri-City Fugitive Task Force.
