Dr. Ron Dotson served as the Program Coordinator for the Occupational Safety Program at EKU from February 2012 until February 2016. He is now teaching full time and concentrating on additional duties with professional organizations outside of EKU. The Program now serves over 800 total students in the Richmond and online campuses. His personal area of expertise includes criminal and workplace investigations, school safety, and general and construction industry safety. As well as serving on critical college committees such as the strategic planning and promotion & tenure committees, he is a member of several professional organizations. He worked with the Institute for Safety and Health Managers to create a national certification for school safety managers (CSSM) that launches in 2016. He continues to work with local schools and colleges for development of rigorous safety curriculum and has recently worked with Houchens Group,Roedding Insurance, and Det Norske Publishing. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Kentucky Safety and Health Network, the OSHA Training Institute, and with local construction contractors. His safety background includes a variety of technical skills and management environments to include military, construction, and heavy stamping in the automotive industry. Technical skills such as commercial driving, heavy equipment operation, welding, diesel mechanics, mechanics, and general construction skills allow him to incorporate rigorous application to course materials. After a successful law enforcement career which involved earning the Medal of Honor, he launched a safety management program for an automotive stamping company. While working as a safety manager with KI USA Corporation he led the company to reduce injuries by 46%, become an inaugural member of Kentucky EXCEL, and record its lowest worker’s compensation expenditure in corporate history.
