In charge of media relations and marketing, with a concentration on Health Sciences, the Colleges of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Nursing and Allied Health Sciences. Also responsible for religion, School of Divinity and the Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel.Duties included:o Develop and implement media and marketing strategies for Health Sciences and Religion.o Create and manage media presence through fielding media inquiries and by placing appropriate university personnel on broadcast media and in print publications.o Create and disseminate press releases. o Create and oversee $250,000 print, television, radio, metro rail and bus advertising campaign for Howard University Hospital and the Howard University Faculty Practice Plan.o Arrange media coverage and press conferences.o Media training – classroom media training; individual interview preparation for physicians, faculty; press conference talking points for executive personnel.o Provide content – print stories, videos and photographs -- for hospital and university websites.o Provide material, such as videos, brochures, posters and cards, in support of medical departments at hospital, the College of Medicine, the College of Dentistry, the College of Pharmacy and the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences.

National Correspondent – Covered Congress, Supreme Court, immigration, Iraq War, social welfare, and national disasters, including hurricanes Katrina and Hurricane Rita. General Assignment Reporter – Provided in-depth coverage of wide range of subjects in St. Louis, the U.S and the world, including two tours covering Iraq War, special report on 30th anniversary of fall of Saigon, politics and education. Asst. Metro Editor/City-County Government – Managed and edited a team of six reporters who covered city government, county government, housing, regional politics, diversity and demographics and religion. Asst. Metro Editor/Social Welfare -- Managed and edited a team of five reporters assigned to cover wide range of social issues. Editorial Writer – Wrote editorials concentrating on the areas of social welfare, including Social Security, health care, law enforcement, gun control, lead paint poisoning and housing. Editorials led to passage of city’s first comprehensive law to deal with lead-based paint.

Owner, Operator– Sold computer parts imported from the United States to Brazilian retailers.

Foreign Correspondent – Wrote range of stories about Brazil, including 1994 presidential campaign, economics, sports, crime, race, and culture. JColumnist-- Wrote weekly Metro column on issues in and around Los Angeles. National Correspondent – Los Angeles-based national correspondent. Covered breaking news and wrote long-range news features. Director of Metro Recruitment and Development – Recruited minority reporters, editors and photographers for Metro. Also oversaw direction of the Minority Editorial Training Program and the newspaper’s intern program. Director of Minority Editorial Training Program – First director of program to turn college graduates with limited journalism backgrounds into newspaper reporters and photographers through one year of extensive training at L.A. Times. Also recruited and hired 60 interns annually. Assistant Metro Editor -- Morning assignment editor, responsible for assigning 20 general assignment reporters to stories. Also edited daily stories and weekend copy. Metro Reporter – Covered local news.

Wrote and edited an array of magazine articles, including health care, politics, law and order, entertainment, science,l sports, race and money. Position required extensive travel.
