Ronald Onyang was born and raised in a smallholder farming community in Uganda.As a child, Ronald experienced two unique conditions. Firstly, he lived and grew up happily, in a beautiful village full of crops and plants, butterflies, cows and goats, and flying birds that joyfully sang various choruses for children like him to spend the whole day trying to imitate. But, also as a child, Ronald saw how his community later went from one big challenge to another.In 2002, Ronald’s village was attacked by the Lords’ Resistance Army rebels, the armed insurgent group that tortured civilians in inhuman ways, forcing them to flee and be internally displaced to live in camps.In 2015, Ronald dropped out of university due to the challenges of tuition, since their major source of family income, the banana plantation had been destroyed by floods in 2014, hence the birth of another big challenge.Same year 2015, Ronald turned climate activist, immediately after realizing that the condition his family and he were going through resulted from climate change. Later on, as a climate activist, Ronald met many young people who had ideas that could drive climate actions but most of them testified to both financial and technical challenges to take their ideas to the next level. It was from this point that Ronald became more interested in learning how to support startups financially like those that could provide solutions to smallholder farmers like his father left hopeless by climate change in his village.In December 2018, Ronald resumed school through the support and inspiration of an Iranian Canadian-based Ph.D. student whom he helped with translation during her study research in Uganda. 2019 Ronald finished his Bachelor's in Business Administration 2019 at Gulu University.In May 2022, Ronald was admitted to the first cohort of the Youth Startup Academy Uganda where he learned how to build a startup from idea to scaling. Since then, Ronald has been helping buzzing startups with business idea sharpening to writing compelling pitch decks.Nonetheless, Ronald was selected as a Cohort Member at the 2023 IncludedVC's Global Venture Capital Fellowship, where he learned how to support start-ups as a Venture Capitalist.Meanwhile, as a man who is passionate about climate actions and financial inclusion, Ronald hopes to enhance VC money and make it more accessible to founders building climate-positive solutions, those who would otherwise be neglected by the traditional VC lenses, and those solving real problems in the emerging markets and remote areas (e.g Africa).
