The Production Assistant will provide comprehensive support to the production of all programmes. He/she will help across several areas of work, including setting up and maintaining systems to support editorial quality, planning and logistics, and reporting. The role will also act as a key point of contact between members of the production team and external groups and individuals. The Production Assistant is an enthusiastic individual who enjoys being part of a team and is keen to learn. The Production Assistant will be able to prioritise their tasks in a busy working environment and will use his/her own initiative to support the radio production(s) wherever needed. The Production Assistant will understand high editorial standards and how to implement them in programme output. The Production Assistant will be based in the BBC Media Action office in Freetown but travel to the provinces may be required. MAIN DUTIES• To conduct relevant content research online and through a range of other sources in order to inform programme content.• To assist the production staff in summarising information, writing briefings, and inviting programme guests and audience members. • To help set up the programme recording venues and check the equipment is functioning well before recording starts.• To assist the Producer during the recording of the programme. This may involve marshalling the audience, managing the guests and providing the presenter with information, among other tasks.• To assist the Presenter(s) by providing them with the information they need to familiarise themselves with topics and profiles of studio guests before the broadcast. • To set up and maintain a database of contacts for the programmes.• To inform local radio stations about the topic of the programme every episode and encourage them to trail the programme a day before broadcast.• To attend editorial meetings and contribute to content ideas and guests for the programmes.
