About Ronald Sharp

I am a qualified professional engineer with a BSc, Mech. Eng. degree, obtained at the University of Natal, Durban. I qualified in 1985, and started work in the gold mining sector with Anglo America in Free State goldfields, Welkom, S.A.I achieved his GCC (Mines & Works) and was appointed section engineer on various shafts. Over a period of 8 years, he spent 2 years as the surface plant engineer, overseeing the planned maintenance and repairs of all the equipment used in the mining operations, 18 months as reduction plant engineer (i.e. the processing the gold bearing rock to finally extract the gold). This section involved extensive crushing, screening, milling and finally filtration equipment typically found in a large mining operation. In all the above appointments I reported to the respective chief engineer.I have 10 years’ experience in a surface sand winning operation, which was primarily the washing, screening and separation of clays/fines. He managed this operation on his own, making all decisions and taking full responsibility for the profitability of the operation, and reported to the board of directors.I recently sold a general engineering concern which was acquired for a specific task of manufacturing brackets for the installation of fibre optic cable onto the railway mast network. The major installations have been completed.I also consulted in a mining operation in, which is in the initial phase of plant /process selection. This process involves opencast mining, crushing, screening, dewatering and filtration. I am self-motivated and enjoy difficult challenges especially in the engineering field. I have learnt to make use of others who are experts in their respective field of engineering, but still have the ability to analyse their proposals/answers. I have gained extensive experience, and realises the importance of the maintenance of equipment both on a planned or unplanned basis.

Listed skills include Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, and 1 others.

This project was necessitated due to the extremely unreliable/unstable utility grid electric supply.• Due to the success of the above 5MW installation, and due to the grid unreliability, I was responsible for the, extremely successful, installation and commissioning of a further 15MW back-up generating plant.• Upgrading of the process cyanide detoxification system. This involved the installation of two new 1000m³ detoxification tanks, upgrading the existing two 1000m³ tanks, installation of oxygen and air sparging systems, installation of a 40 tpd oxygen (VPSA) plant. The project also replaced the existing Lime and SMBS mixing plants as well as the erection of two buildings for the storage of these reagents. The final project costs is $25m.• Installation and commissioning of 2.7MVAR Power Factor correction banks.• Installation and commissioning of a 100 gpt CMC dosing plant to suppress the effects of the talk in the plant process feed material. This project cost is $1.2m• There are also minor projects at various stages of completion, they include: - 1) Upgrading of the Knelson gravity screens feed water supply, 2) Carbon storage area, 3) Storage of used hydrocarbons, 4) replacement of pipe work throughout the plant due to scale build-up over previous years Show less
