As an Environmental Educator for Alice Ferguson Foundation my job was to teach D.C, Prince George’s and Charles County Public Schools the Principles of sustainability and pollution prevention. We used a variety of virtual media, including Zoom and Google Meet, to introduce key concepts and practical examples focusing on the growing recognition that human activity is affecting many of the earth’s critical resources not only locally but now also at a global scale, and with potential effects on human as well as ecological health. I was responsible for hosting students for onsite tours promoting a better understanding and environmental stewardship of the natural resources within the Potomac River Watershed and the legacy of farming in Southern Maryland.

As supervisor among the interns supporting the department, I was responsible for coordinating staff activities and assisting in performance of their duties. From a technical aspect I was responsible for developing the concept and content for an activity book for grades K-12 pertaining to marine debris. I also helped develop the policy of banning the use of plastic straws in Prince George’s County working to remove a significant source of non-bio-degradable plastic often otherwise ending up in our waterways making up the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. I also assisted with the County Stormwater Management team in their efforts to mitigate stormwater runoff and the related negative environmental impact.
