As a BI BA I am working closely with senior stakeholders to realise their business intelligence requirements. I gather and document requirements, create the high level solution and write the functional specification. I work closely together with the developers guiding them in technical development, and work closely with the project team realising their timelines. I plan the deliverables and ensure all "ducks are in a row" for a smooth transition between environments, technical and business approvals, testing and signoff of deliverables.I have achieved the delivery of crucial reports and reporting solutions for high exposure Chevron projects, mainly within the Gorgon JVP. I also delivered several technical projects which involved solution design which included ETL processes, data modelling, security model design, and off course the business intelligence front end.In addition I have created processes to more effectively work together with offshore resources. This involved extensive stakeholder engagement, analysis of previous projects, document storage, change management and communication plans.

For Western Power I performed various roles. A major project which introduced BI to the organisation was rolled out to 1500+ people. I initially wrote the training strategy and training material which resulted in executing the training over 50 professional report authors.During closure of the project I recognised the communication was not sufficient, certainly with the Change Manager leaving, so I temporarly organised communications till the project closed. This ranged from writing bi-weekly emails, organising and presenting floor shows, doing demonstrations, to managing stakeholder lists.After closure I was asked to develop the Reporting Standards for the Data Standards and Policy department, which I am developing at the moment, together with the team, the Business Intelligence department, and off course the customers; the business.In addition I am developing best practice Dashboards with the business. The purpose of the development of Dashboards is to showcase Cognos 10, and at the same time provide value. In addition we deliver information, bridge the gap to IT from a process perspective, its win for everybody. Development is done iterative and has proven to be of great value and success.

At Solution Minds I deliver BI solutions to a wide variety of customers, from small private companies to large government departments. I deliver models using Cognos Framework Manager (DMRs, cubes and relational), reports and dashboards using Report/Analysis/Query Studio, and recently dived head first into TM1 creating cubes and TI processes. I also deliver customized training packages, and provide "generic" consulting for customer who have just rolled out Cognos 10, and the best way to implement this.I thourghly enjoy the delivery of front end solutions like professional looking (and working) Dahsboards and reports, and my passion lies in "showing the light" to business users.

I inherited a Decommissioning Project which was just in the start up phase. I applied my Project Manager skills and in addition also acted as the Senior BI Consultant for this year long project.The Decommissioning project aimed at removing a legacy reporting solution and replacing this with a suitable BI solution. In scope for this project were the interfaces with source systems, ETL processes, database technologies, semantic layer and report delivery via Business Objects, and outward interfaces to other target systems. I project managed the first two phases which included extensive scope development, stakeholder management, development of communication plans, change management, budgets, resourcing requirements and I successfully managed a team of 4 professional people through the first 2 phases of the project. My team included a Business Analyst, Data Architect, ETL specialist and a Business Objects specialist which supported me in all our deliverables to management help me gain approval for next phases. I used my Project Management skills in combination with the customers Project Management methodology to successfully deliver the first two phases of this project. As a Senior BI Consultant it was also my role to design the analysis approach, design and document the high level solution and communicate this clearly with management and key stakeholders of the project for signoff. I communicated with all kinds of stakeholders like architects, business users, subject matter experts and high level management.In this opportunity I learned the professional way of executing a large project and had the support of professionals in Project Management, Change Management, Data Governance, and other areas related to the execution of a multimillion dollar project.

During this short term engagement I worked in a small team responsible for delivering a high quality dashboard for senior management of a major oil and gas company. The solution included the usage of data stage, Toad, Oracle and Cognos 8. Data was sourced from various data sources like spreadsheets, Oracle and SQL Server.It was my responsibility to design, document and use metrics, design and deliver the Cognos Framework Manager model, re-design and partly develop some screens and finally document the dashboard. All had to be in strict alignment with the BI foundation team within the clients BI team.I assisted in gathering requirements from the business in workshops, documentation and collaboration with ETL, modeller and the business to ensure a high quality dashboard. In addition I also supported project management with task tracking and planning, created and maintained documentation and presentations, and arranged communication with stakeholders and project participants.

As a Senior BI consultant I work in a major government department where I am responsible for solution design of a very large project. After gathering high level business requirements we (I am the lead BI/BA of a team of 4) perform data profiling using SQL in Teradata. I personally model the database and create a working prototype using Framework Manager and Cognos Connection. I present this to the business and by helping them create reports using Report Studio and Query Studio we refine the solution, thus ensuring business value. I write all technical and training documentation for the project and work together with the Cognos, modelling, ETL and project management to ensure quality delivery to the production platform.I am responsible for customer relationship management between departments and BI education of all project participants. I have successfully designed and delivered the first 2 phases of the project, and am currently working on future phases with the strategic business partners. In addition I have developed several documentation templates, advised on strategic and architectural BI issues and perform presentations, training, and a little culture change management. I have made great progress implementing industry standards and creating BI awareness across the organisation.I am also engaged on several other projects in a consulting role and initial engagement with strategic partners. I also consult on high level requirement analysis processes across the organisation.For Formation Data I performed a pre-sales role whilst on-site which I achieved successful, there are now 3 consultants working on site.

As part of the IT Project Management Team I used my PM Certificate IV skills to successfully deploy several large international business applications and interfaces between applications (Cognos, PeopleSoft, LANDesk and PayGlobal).I was responsible for the design and deployment of the Cognos 8BI framework, introducing BI to Raytheon Australia’s management. This included systems design and deployment of an enterprise wide reporting framework. I gathered BI requirements, created many reports using Report Studio and Query Studio, and trained and various people in the usage of these applications. I also created a BICC which included Report Authors, Query Studio users and Framework Manager Modellers.

During 2006 my employment was split into 3 distinctly different roles:Deployment of business applications (some COTS some developed in-house), their systems design, deployment and support. I was exposed to many different technologies which do not form part of my standard skills set (Oracle, Java and PeopleSoft) showing initiative and flexibility.A challenging task was the introduction of IT Governance for Raytheon Australia. In this role I advised strategic direction to management and communicated across the board with all levels of Raytheon employees, national and international. After project closure I was also operationally responsible for the IT governance documentation framework (Policies and Procedures). I successfully completed Software Asset Management project. Part of this framework is the adherence to Australian software licensing laws; this included making use of, and alignment with, the many enterprise wide supplier and license agreements with major suppliers like HP, Microsoft, PeopleSoft, Cognos etc.I completed a comprehensive Cognos course and took over the management of Cognos for Raytheon Australia. This included the upgrade from Cognos 7 to Cognos 8, creation of Financial Models in Framework Manager, and the delivery of many Cognos Reports for the rapidly growing base of users.

As a .NET web developer I was responsible for the design, development and deployment of the Raytheon Australian Intranet; this included successful delivery of design of front and back-end, a fully automated content management system, using Active Directory and network authentication. After completion I developed several other .NET web applications and supported and re-designed legacy web applications. All web applications included an SQL server backend, made use of many .NET features and integrated with Raytheon’s Active Directory. I designed and deployed a new development, test and production environment for all web applications.

During this period I completed various contracts around the world, between contracts I took time off to travel, but some contracts followed each other. Most contracts involved web development but I also engaged in training, release management and some VB development. I setup my own hosting company.

CTG is an international IT staffing agency which was developing a new Internet Services Department, specializing in supplying web professionals. I was asked to manage the staff and their career.Initially the department only staffed 12 people but within a year I managed 50 IT professionals with retention of 100%! I was responsible for hiring, career path, personal development, "the right men on the right project". This involved communication with the sales department, internal and external customers and my staff.

As a Training Manager I was responsible for the development of IT training strategies and courseware used for the petrol stations and connecting departments (marketing, sales, finance, research etc) in The Netherlands. I managed a team of 5 trainers. I developed courses and was responsible for all the resources of the IT training department. I designed a "mobile classroom" with 15 workstations, visual display, networking, and automatic software installation. Part of my daily responsibility was liaising between software developers and petrol station managers to improve the quality of software used on 800+ petrol stations with 8000+ employees.I developed and deployed a resource management software application. This was a MS-Access database application used by our planning department to plan resources like trainers, locations, materials etc. Using MS-Access I developed a module for advanced management reporting, a module to automatically generate correspondence batch wise and a billing cycles for our contractors. This application was used for over 6 years before being upgraded to Oracle.I managed a busy petrol station which was used as a test ground for many new ideas and technologies within Shell Netherlands. My petrol station tested a new product management and petrol flow system connected by a cash register. I liaised between the developers and my staff. I was responsible for the daily business, ledger, marketing and retail of my petrol station.Because of my connections with research and knowledge of practical application I was hired as a trainer for technologies for Shell Netherlands. I conducted a variety of courses like Customer Service, Accountancy, Product knowledge and Retail Management.
