As a Software Engineer @ Activision, I led a critical login system overhaul in collaboration with UI/Frontend and Design teams. Our goal was to improve user retention by implementing a guest account feature that allowed users to log into the app without email verification. This required a significant overhaul of the login system, introducing risks to stability during release. I coordinated efforts with design, frontend, and QA to ensure the guest account system's functionality met all requirements. I personally conducted core functionality tests, while QA focused on extensive testing. As we expanded the feature to include an upgrade path to a regular account, I led the team with a strong emphasis on communication and testing, ensuring a smooth release with no major issues.Additionally, I worked alongside a fellow backend engineer to implement a live state system that allowed users to reload into complex, data-modifiable scenarios after closing or minimizing the app. This feature led to an 18% increase in user retention post-release.As we prepared for our next major release, I expanded my role to manage the setup and configuration of our Dev, Cert, and Live environments. This involved updating backend services, setting up new environments, and configuring default settings for all engineers to align with our new version target. I also ensured that core systems were fully functional in the new environment.Furthermore, I implemented the app's push notification system, integrating it with our backend services and Braze API key. This enabled marketing campaigns and social features like friend requests and invites to be delivered even when the app was closed, driving user engagement.I also worked closely with the data team to investigate user retention and resolve app crashes and bugs. Using Databricks, I analyzed user behavior, reducing investigation and solution time from several days or more to just a couple of days, significantly improving our response time.

As a Jr. Software Engineer at Activision Blizzard, I developed a large-scale datacenter security detection service using Terraform/Ansible, deployed in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Kubernetes. This system automated the threat modeling of a global fleet of servers, reducing response times by 66% and significantly enhancing security monitoring capabilities. I also streamlined the process of server checks, reducing manual checks from one hour per week to just 20 minutes, saving valuable engineering time.Additionally, I designed and implemented a low-level network profiling tool that collected critical network metrics such as packet loss, traceroutes, jitter, and latency between a client and servers across the globe. I took full ownership of this project developing skills leading and guiding an intern while managing servers in multiple locations including Amsterdam, Barcelona, London, Australia, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Taiwan, and Tokyo. The tool provided insights into network infrastructure, revealing issues like the inferior performance of a particular cellular carrier compared to a leading competitor.This project required an in-depth exploration of low-level socket programming, client-server connections, and extensive knowledge of UDP and TCP protocols. I also worked with network encryption and anti-tampering techniques, ensuring high-performance microsecond-level data collection while safeguarding against man-in-the-middle (MITM) attacks. The tool provided valuable insights into the vastly different characteristics of cellular networks compared to ethernet and Wi-Fi, incorporating NMEA GPS standards to provide geolocation data for network performance analysis.
