Profile bio

About Ron K.

Think of all the different kinds of technology interactions that you have every day — adjusting the audio controls inside your car, booking a flight online, paying for your retail store purchase with Apple Pay, or recording a workout on a wearable device like the Apple Watch. If designed well, the encounters that we have with technology are not only functional and reliable, but they can also be an intuitive and an enjoyable experience. If designed poorly, then we end up going to another site on the web or the device ends up in the junk drawer. My educational background and professional experience are in the multi-disciplinary field of human-computer interaction (HCI), where technology and the humanities intersect. HCI is a domain spanning human psychology, design, and computer science, and I work in this space to improve our everyday engagement with technology — primarily through user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design — while also considering the effects that technology has on people. In addition to thinking through the tangible aspects of design, like user interface button placement, typography selection, and overall form factor, I’m passionate about applying human-centered design thinking to creatively solve problems so that the average person can use technology products to enhance and enrich their lives in a meaningful way.I currently work in the space domain as an interaction designer and user researcher for NASA, working alongside a fantastic team of other designers at the space agency’s Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) Group. Our aim is to create data integration tools that deliver the right data to the right people at the right time, freeing our users from technology struggles and instead empowering them to focus primarily on solving problems involving space exploration. Our group functions as a design consultancy to create software user interfaces, hardware prototypes, and other human-centered technology solutions for a niche user community of engineers and scientists across the Agency. My team currently designs and develops software applications for NASA’s Artemis program, which aims to return humans to the Moon and further the Agency’s endeavors in human deep space exploration and scientific discovery. If we’ve previously worked together face-to-face or have otherwise already been introduced, I’d love to connect.

Listed skills include Embedded Systems, Microcontrollers, Semiconductors, Soc, and 45 others.
