Broad experience in business, investing and management both profit and not-for-profit. Now active as chairman and supervisory board member. Ronald Cornelis van der Giessen graduated from Wageningen Agricultural University in 1985, as an agricultural engineer, specializing in forestry, with special subjects in Spain and Ecuador. He started his professional career already before his graduation by joining the staff of the WWF-World Wide Fund for Nature of The Netherlands in 1982 as the Assistant to the Director. From 1984 until 1986 he worked from London for the think-tank International Institute for Environment and Development as a Research Associate, concentrating on land planning policy issues for countries such as (then) Zaire, Cameroon and Indonesia and serving as a consultant to the World Trade Organisation, helping to launch the International Tropical Timber Organisation. From 1986 until 1990 he rejoined the WWF as the responsible officer for communication, marketing and international projects.From 1990 until 1997 he was Head of Staff at Natuurmonumenten, the Netherlands National Trust for Nature Conservation, firstly with Communication and Marketing in his portfolio, later as a Regional Director. From 1997 until 2003 he was Partner and Member of the Board of Directors of Novamedia and the National Postcode Lottery, now the largest charitable lottery of the Netherlands, with several branches in other countries.In August 2003 he was appointed Director/General Secretary of the Foundation Oranje Fonds, one of the Netherlands' largest philantropic foundations. The foundation has Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima as its patrons. They perform a very active role in promoting the aim of social cohesion in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. At the Foundation's 15th anniversary in 2017, he stepped down as CEO and was awarded a knighthood as Officer in the Order of Oranje Nassau.Since 2017 he is owner of Boardroom Companions, a company specializing in supervisory work and special projects. One of those is setting up the National Foundation for Sports on behalf of the National Olympic Committee. He is chairman of several supervisory boards, always active in the field where technical knowledge and social awareness have cross overs. Real estate, M&A's, energy transition and innovation are his core fields of interest.
