About Ronald Van Eijk
Pathology laboratories throughout the world have compiled large archives of unique collections of tissue specimens. These tissue samples are used for patient diagnostics and research. Novel molecular insights into alterations in normal cellular function have led to the identification of targets for innovative therapies. Testing for biomarkers combined with molecular pathology has created the potential for “personalized medicine” and improved diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. New technologies for molecular analysis in molecular tumor diagnostics and research are being developed and implemented to keep pace with the latest insights.Thesis title: Technological advances in molecular pathology : a journey into the archiveshttps://openaccess.leidenuniv.nl/handle/1887/20866Movie: www.scivee.tv/user/23637Website: www.lumc.nl/org/pathologie/research/90708043159185/90708044256185/

Clinical Scientist In Molecular Pathology
For 25 years, molecular biologists have been working within Pathology to shape Molecular Pathology within diagnostics. They are united within the working group for Molecular Diagnostics in Pathology. One of the objectives of this working group is to define the role of molecular biologist within Pathology. This has led to the recognition of the Clinical Molecular Biologist in Pathology (KMBP) by the Dutch Association for Pathology (NVVP).The responsibilities of the KMBP are laid down in the Quality Guideline for Molecular Diagnostics in Pathology of the NNVP Committee on Molecular Diagnostics in Pathology on 28 June 2005 (revised version in 2014; http://www.pathology.nl/beroepsuitoefening/richtlijnen) . “The KMBP determines the molecular approach and is responsible for the choice of the underlying molecular technique, the quality and reliability of the execution of the analysis and for reporting the results to an internal or external (in the case of molecular consultation) pathologist so that these can be adequately integrated into the report to the treating physician. ”The required professional competencies and detailed responsibilities of the KMBP are described in the document 'Training Clinical Molecular Biologist in Pathology'. It also describes the definition of the specific responsibilities of the pathologist and the KMBP in molecular diagnostics.
