Ronan in a Senior Junior Counsel with over 20 years' experience in judicial review, public inquiries, coronial inquests, corporate crime and health and safety prosecutions. He is called to the bars of England (Gray's Inn), Ireland and N. Ireland. He was appointed to the Coroners Service counsel panel by the Lord Chief Justice in 2009 and has been on the 'A' panel of counsel for Government Legal Services since 2012. He was appointed to the role of Special Advocate by the Advocate General. Ronan is also a member of the medical negligence and inquests panel of counsel for the Directorate of Legal Services.Ronan was appointed to the Advocacy Training Board in 2014 and is an occasional lecturer at Queen's University. He was appointed to the Bar Professional Conduct Committee in 2021.In his advisory role Ronan advised the Home Office and MOJ on the implications of decisions taken under Articles 10(4) and Protocol 36 to the Treaty of the Functioning of the EU. The advisory team included David Perry QC and Jonathan Hall QC (London) and W. James Wolfe QC (Edinburgh).In his advocacy role Ronan appeared at the Robert Hamill Inquiry on behalf of the Senior Coroner and has been instructed as inquest counsel in many of the most significant inquests in recent years including:* McBride Inquest - hospital death of 14 year-old boy involving 15 doctors at RBHSC.* Kingsmill Massacre Inquests - involving the deaths of 10 civilians in 1976.* AGUSTA 109A (N2NR) - helicopter crash inquest. * Arlene Arkinson Inquest - a ground breaking inquisition into presumed death of a 15 year-old.* Bernard Watt Inquest - 'legacy' inquisition ordered by the AG into a fatal army shooting in 1971 (2017 NI Coroner 2).* Joseph Parker Inquest - involving a fatal army shooting in 1971 (2017 NI Coroner 3).* Fegan Inquest - death by burns of an elderly resident at a nursing home (2017 NI Coroner 10).* Ben Robinson Inquest - an inquisition into the death of a 14 year-old schoolboy after sustaining 'second impact syndrome' during a schools rugby match. * Magowan Inquest - death by gunshot wound of a Police Inspector.* Brown Inquest - Poplar Coroner's Court, London
