Port Operations Director
I was responsible for the management and operation of the military port, which is the primary means for all logistical movement into the Falkland Islands. Part of my responsibilities included: - The allocation and monitoring of labour. Ensuring that all personnel were trained to the correct standard, and that all port tasks had the correct mix of personnel in order to ensure the troop competed its mission. - Acting as the primary point of contact for port support to vessels.- The management and control of budgets.- Management of troop 25+ personnel and writing of appraisals which ultimately could lead to career progression and promotion. - Managed a £3.5 million vehicle and vessel fleet. Ensuring all personnel were fully competent with a totally new platform and weapon systems. - Conducted route analysis and risk assessments for large HGV convoys in excess of 50 vehicles through complex and hostile terrain ensuring the Army maintained its logistical supply chain.- Managed a £8 million fleet of PMVs and ensured their readiness in order to provide protection to large convoys.- Planned and lead large HGV convoys under challenging and pressurised circumstances in order to resupply our customer units. - Creatively planned and co-ordinated training projects for 30+ employees to enhance skills through sporting and military activities, ensuring objectives and strategies were met.- Responsible for the welfare, administration and livelihood of 30+ employees.

The Silk Road Over Land Trip
I completed a solo overland journey starting in Singapore and ending in Dublin. The journey included such countries as China, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan and Iran. Travel was by any means possible except flying. It required patience, stamina, people and planning skills, and above all a thirst for life and adventure. The journey made me much more appreciative of what I have, who I am and it reaffirmed my faith in the world and the intrinsic goodness of people.
