I took on additional responsibilities to cover the resignation of a colleague.This opportunity gave me exposure to an additional work stream worth of opportunities and network for the remainder of my term, in addition to an additional portfolio of responsibilities including:- Representing the student body speaking at Academic Senate.- Attending strategic committees relating to education, student welfare, and governance.- Working with the University Executive Team to progress several projects.- Representing StrathUnion at several conferences and events.

Duties include:- Being the Strategic Leader for a membership organisation composed of 3000h members and 50+ constituent clubs.- Drafting, finalising, and distributing a £100k+ budget for distribution.- Raising funds for further development work.- Partnership management across the three major internal university stakeholders as well as external partners.- Line managing a volunteer workforce and providing them with essential training and CPD opportunities.- Writing an annual operational plan for the USSU within the 5 year strategic plan.- Ensuring the governance of the organisation was sound and adhering to all constitutional requirements.- Representing the USSU as well as the University of Strathclyde at major events and conferences.- Organising the annual events calendar including multiple 1k+ attendee events.- Administering the USSU disciplinary process and chairing appeals committees when required.Additional experiences gained while performing my duties include:- Assisting in the development and publishing of the Strathsports mobile app.- Leading the procurement process to secure a new technical provider for University of Strathclyde Sports clothing (50k+ p/a contract)- Securing £20k of funding to provide free breakfasts for all students during the May & December exam diets.- Leading a project to realign the Sports Association within the University of Strathclyde, working with governance experts and the University Executive Team to successfully pitch a solution to the USSA Board of Trustees.- Introducing new initiatives around sustainability and ethical practice.- Creating EDI opportunities within the existing sport development portfolio such as Trans & Non-Binary swimming sessions.

This project was created to help enable kids to build self-esteem and self-confidence; develop their abilities in relationship management; create learning opportunities to develop new skills and knowledge; encourage a positive group atmosphere; build the capacity of young people to consider risk, make reasonable decisions and when possible take control; and develop a ‘world view’ which widens horizons and invites social commitments.
