The product is a commercial countertop oven used by fast food restaurants to cook food quickly. The oven uses high heat and air jets to cook. There two controllers one that controls the heating elements/air jets and a second that runs the user interface, the overall control of the oven and all communications interfaces into/out of the oven. I worked on the second controller, it was a PIC32 based system running FreeRTOS. I fixed defects with exiting code, added new functionality and helped architect a new cloud solution. The current cloud solution is locked into one cloud provider and I designed a system that will allow multiple cloud vendors to be possible.
Senior Software Engineer
I refactored a server based simulation tool to run as a standalone tool on both Windows and Linux. This involved writing documents detailing how to setup the installation environment and creating a user guide. The refactoring involved reworking the make system and build tools to use locally installed tools not server based tools. I had to manipulate makefiles and build scripts. Modules not needed by the new project were removed along with encryption so the tool can be distributed outside the country. I was required to rewrite code specifically in the simulation user interface which was a QT based GUI. Screens had to be removed and rewritten based on the changed functionality.
Consulting Software Engineer
Created a prototype of a working IoT system using the Telit cell mode chips for communication across the internet. The prototype system: 1. based on the STM32F4xx processor 2. used FreeRTOS 3. used the GNU build environment.I wrote the drivers on the embedded side for the Telit chip and wrote all the software necessary to command the chip to create a cell connection, get onto the internet and access the PubNub IoT cloud service.
Systems Engineer
Writing application used by the customer base as an example of how to use Renesas' development tools, libraries and frameworks. The applications were written in C and used the ThreadX RTOS.
Consulting Embedded Software Engineer
Lead Rf Software Engineer
Designed communications for a water filtration machine. The on board computer used the STM32F207, an ARM Cortex M3 based microprocessor. A TCP/IP stack was built for theprocessor/board combination as well as cell phone support. The cell phone connected via an asynchronous serial port to the processor and was used for M2M communication. Communication for deployed machines involved communicating across the cell phone data connection and onto the internet where the back-end server was deployed.Designed software and test fixtures for an RFID system. The Intel R1000 chip set was used toimplant the RF interface to RFID tags. The R1000 is sold with an Atmel Arm processor whichimplements the majority of the RFID UHF GEN 2 specification. Software was written for theTMS320F2808 to communicate with the ARM over a serial port. The product was a fluid dispensing retail machine. The Software used RFID tags to keep track of product that can be added/removed at will. Collaborated with the client to establish design guidelines and requirements for the RFID section of the machine. Worked with contract manufacturer in designing and debugging test fixtures for the RFID system. Extensive contact with the RFID chip set vendor for the purpose of improving their product and providing knowledge of the application. Organized the hardware and quality engineers to assure cooperation between skill sets and timely delivery of product.A Windows application was written in C++ to perform testing on the RFID tags. The application alsoprogrammed the tags for their intended application. This application was used for testing/verification of the system.Implemented a small proof of concept application for the iPhone.
Lead Software Engineer
The software developed was for an enterprise level VoIP to PSTN gateway. Provided technical design leadership and oversight of out sourced engineers in Brazil. Responsible for CLI, SNMP, the embedded database as well as other modules as the need arose. The responsibilities included fixed defects, designing in new functionality and providing security assessments of the equipment.
Principle Software Engineer
Visited customers to help debug their design and software integration issues. Provided customer feedback for use in the standard TI software. Programmed the MSP430 for a Power over Ethernet application. The MSP430 controlled the TMS2384 in a reference design. The MSP430 configured the TMS2384 registers as well as provided access to power data from the PoE chip. The firmware implemented a power management algorithm to control per port power as well as total power output for the ethernet switch. Configurable priorities per port and port order allowed the algorithm to shutdown ports in relative order of least importance. Supported a Visual Basic GUI that communicated with the MSP430 over a serial/USB link and configured the PoE system. Bugs were fixed in the GUI as well as extensions to the protocol used across the serial/USB port to the MSP430 to enhance features. Wrote code for a synthesized 6-bit processor inside TI’s next generation Power over Ether net chip. The code was in assembly language and provided power management and handshaking protocol support.
Principle Software Engineer
Guided a group of software engineers, providing technical leadership in design and debugging of new features. Designed, coded and tested functionality for the shelf controller card of a telecommunications media gateway. The gateway was a VxWorks/PowerPC design. Fixed bugs and added enhancements to the CLI, SNMP parser, database, security and other parts of the media gateway. Security deficiencies were identified and fixed. Card and shelf redundancy was improved. Wrote Procomm scripts to debug the CLI and provide some automated testing.Integrated a proprietary IPSec stack into the product. The IPSec protocol was tested in a number of different configurations and with a number of different hosts. Unix shell scripts were used to test the communications and make sure no packet loss occurred. Ported the media gateway from VxWorks to embedded Linux. Connected the media gateway CLI parsing to a Linux telnet session.
Senior Software Engineer
Created a hardware abstraction layer that allowed higher level software access to an Infiniband chip. Developed a tool that created command definitions to access hundreds of registers on the Infiniband chip. Implemented CLI commands for diagnostics, Infiniband register access and subnet management information. Wrote a JAVA applet to demo the ability to map network topology of the Infiniband subnet.
Senior Software Engineer
Wrote CLI and SNMP commands to implement and configure redundancy for a DOCSIS line card of a cable to IP concentrator which was based on VxWorks and the PowerPC. Implemented an ISR to determine if a card was defective or removed. Coded support for a switchover between cards and supported all the specialized hardware added to support redundancy. A very successful demo was created for a trade show.
