In 2020, when COVID cleared his speaking calendar, I went back to school and became a Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). In 2021, I completed my Firefighter 1 training and currently serve my community as a member of Wintergreen Fire and Rescue.

In 2014, Ron began a journey to produce a documentary about his college band. The University of Virginia (UVA) Pep Band was an irreverent scramble band that entertained crowds from 1974 until it was dis-banded by the university in 2002. In 2023, nearly 140 former band members came back to UVA to reconnect, heal some old wounds, and perform one last show. I served on the board of the National Speakers Association, an association for professional speakers, for nine years. While on that board, I oversaw a number of improvement efforts within the organization and during my year as president, I helped to deliver five conferences. Additionally, I traveled to other speaker associations around the world to participate in their annual conventions.I served on the National Speakers Association Foundation Board of Trustees for three years.

Served on the board of the University of Maryland's Gliner Center for Humor Studies. The center provided research, information, and education about the benefits of humor and laughter.

I was trained in healthcare process improvement at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. I used that training to implement and manage a quality improvement and customer service culture at Hospice of Northern Virginia (Now Capital Caring).The role included overseeing multiple quality improvement projects, conducting quality improvement and customer service training, and overseeing the process for accreditation with the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Health Care Organizations.

I was responsible for overseeing the Counseling Department at Hospice of Northern Virginia (Now Capital Caring) where we provided psychosocial and spiritual support to terminally ill patients, family members, and bereaved individuals.I provided both administrative and clinical supervision for a staff of 26 social workers, bereavement counselors, chaplains, and art therapists. I also facilitated bereavement support groups, conducted community education, participated in interdisciplinary team meetings, and sat on numbers committees.

I provided psychosocial support to terminally ill patients, their families, and bereaved individuals at Hospice of Northern Virginia (Now Capital Caring).As a member of the Counseling Department, I made home visits, facilitated bereavement support groups, attended interdisciplinary team meetings, and conducted community education. I worked with many local hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and other organizations to coordinate care for our patients and their families.

I provided crisis intervention and ongoing counseling services to physically and sexually abused children in the Washington, DC metro area. As a member of the Department of Child Protection at Children's National Medical Center, I provided on-call services in the Emergency Room and ongoing counseling for children and their families in an outreach clinic in southeast DC.
