Barking Power Station

As Principal Engineer Rotating Plant I had full responsibilty and accountability for all the Turbine Generating Plant at Barking Power Station which includes 5 GE Frame 9E Gas Turbine Generators and 2 Alstom Steam Turbine Generators in a Combined Cycle Configuration. (Nominal Capacity 1000 MW). My duties included; Development and Management of Maintenance Strategies, Setting Standards for Routine and Long Term Maintenance, Managing Overhauls, Quality Control Standards, Implementing Safety Management Processes, Managing all Technical Staff, as well as the development and control of Engineering and Maintenance Budgets. I was also responsible for the management of the (LTMSA) Long Term Maintenance Service Agreements with Siemens and (CSA) Contract Service Agreement with GE. I also provided significant technical support to Operations Staff by influencing the way the Station is run achieving maximum availability, efficiency and reliability.

Sizewell B Nuclear Power Station

As Turbine Plant Systems Engineer I was responsible for the Maintenance, System Health and Efficiency of the Main Turbine Generators (2 x 630MW Units), Associated Auxiliary Plant and Control Systems. This included the development of Long and Short Term Maintenance Strategies. I also provided a Technical Support for the Emergency Diesel Generating Plant (4 x 15MW Units) a crucial factor in the Station’s operational safety case.My position included responsibilities for setting standards for the Operation, Maintenance, Modification and General System Health of the above mentioned Plant as well as controlling the Budgets for all Balance of Plant Systems and Mentoring Engineers within my group together with Managing the Main Contractors associated with Major Plant Outages

As Turbine Consultant (Senior Management Position) for Rotek Engineering Turbo Machinery Services it was my responsibility to provide a service for Technical problems associated with Construction, Commissioning, Maintenance and Operations as well as Insurance Investigations, Trouble-Shooting and providing Project Management Advice. I also provided a major contribution into the continued development and improvement of the Company’s Engineering and Quality Techniques. The Company handles numerous types and makes of Turbine Generating Plant and associated auxiliary equipment on Steam, Gas and Hydro Power Plant. I also instigated a Diesel Engine Generating Maintenance Section, which became technically competent and commercially viable in a very short time. A considerable amount of my time was spent advising Senior and Corporate Management on Technical and Commercial aspects of prospective major projects. In 2000 /2001 ENGINEERING MANAGER Remaining in a Senior Management position within Rotek Engineering I held the post of Engineering Manager for the last ten months of my contract with a staffing strength of >100 personnel. Although still supporting the requirement as Consulting Engineer and Management Advisor a large portion of my time was spent re-structuring the Engineering Department, Developing Department Business Strategies and Best Industry Practice Guidelines/Policies for the long term success of the company.

Sizewell B Pwr Power Plant

Test Team Leader for the commissioning of two 630MW Turbine Generators and associated balance of plant. Duties ranged from writing commissioning/test procedures to control of all testing carried out by Nuclear Electric and other major contractors Test Teams. Other responsibilities included the implementation of design changes brought about by detailed test methods to achieve the optimum performance from the plant. I also provided support and guidance to Operational staff.

Based At Rugby Warwickshire

Originally employed as a Service Engineer and Technical Service Support Engineer progressing to Site Management of Power Plant projects. The duties ranged from industrial relations, health & safety to customer liaison, estimating, budget control and planning, leading to contract conclusion and customer satisfaction. The most important factor in these positions was a complete understanding of the engineering problems related to Turbine Generators and associated plant from complete erection to commissioning as well as overhauls. I gained experience on Turbine Generators from 5MW to 1200MW.
