Ron Gauthier retired as a Navy civilian scientist at Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific, formerly SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific (SSC PAC), in 2023, employed there since 1994. (Following bio to be updated for past 4 years of work)......Currently supporting a project titled "Making Kennedy Real," which is focusing on implementing artificial intelligence (including ambient intelligence, like Hal in "2001: A Space Odyssey") into Naval tactical warfighting. Recently turned over Project Manager assignment to our new hire Dr. John Frew (I am linked to him) for Project ENVVEST (ENVironmental inVESTment) in support of the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton WA. The goal of the project is to lead heavy industrial organizations from a regulatory scheme based on disparate rules and Permits to one that is based on the actual long-term ecological health of the adjacent ecosystems. In 1984, earned a B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of Southern California, where I was commissioned as a Naval Officer through NROTC. Served as a Surface Warfare Officer onboard USS BUCHANAN (DDG-14) and USS FORT FISHER (LSD-40), making deployments to the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean, before being assigned to then Naval Ocean Systems Center as a R&D liaison officer in 1990. Earned a Master of Public Health (Concentration in Environmental Health Science) from San Diego State University (SDSU) in 1995. While employed at SSC PAC (initially Naval Ocean Systems Center or NOSC) as a Naval Officer, contractor with Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), and Navy scientist, was Principal Investigator or Project Manager (PM) for numerous projects (ranging in size from $50K-$7M) which assessed the ecological risk of afloat and ashore activities and developed solutions and screening tools and methods for the operational Navy.Specialties: Science Advisor to operational forces of Navy and Marine Corps (Commander U.S Seventh Fleet, Yokosuka, Japan, 2014-17); US Naval Forces Central Command, Bahrain, 2004, 2006; Three Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa Japan, 2009-12); Environmental Scientist with US Navy 1990-Present, Technical Officer in ONR Reserve Program 38 1997-2008, Surface Warfare Officer on 2 Naval Warships (BUCHANAN, FORT FISHER) 1985-1992, Naval Reserve Officer 1992-2013 (retired Commander).
