During my 14-year career in legal marketing, I've: - worked for the country's biggest legal marketing agency;- helped rebuild a boutique legal marketing agency;- sold marketing to law firms and- invested in marketing on behalf of law firms.I've enjoyed most of my time working in agencies, but a couple of issues have needled me for years. 1. No matter what guidance I provided, my potential clients often had a warranted level of skepticism since I mostly recommended the agency's products or services. The inherent bias baked into the business model no longer sat well with me.2. Although I've been incorporated for the last eight years, I've increasingly wrestled with the desire to run my own business—not as a side hustle or gig. But full-time. All in.
