The Reading Hospital is a 635 bed Academic acute-care Level I Trauma hospital. The system includes a regional Continuing Care Organization, a Skilled Nursing Facility, a freestanding Ambulatory Surgical Center, an employed Medical Group, and School of Health Sciences.The Director, Medical Affairs for Reading Hospital ensures quality care to all patients of the hospital, building relationships with and between the medical staff, the hospital and the community. Responsible for oversight of a Medical Staff Office serving 1,000 physicians and allied health staff, providing leadership in the areas of governance, credentialing, FPPE, OPPE, enrollment, peer review, professionalism, medical staff leadership development, compliance, and communications. In concert with the CMO and clinical leadership, is also responsible for monitoring the utilization of clinical resources and providing support for the professional environment of the physician and the care of the patient.

Collaborated with major stakeholders to develop consensus regarding the strategic direction of the cardiovascular service line. Targeted specific areas of focus for talent acquisition to fulfill our strategic vision for the cardiothoracic surgery service.Led successful recruiting efforts to bring two talented, experienced surgeons to our medical center. These individuals will allow us to provide cutting edge services in robotically assisted and minimally invasive cardiac surgery, and facilitate our ability to provide advanced mechanical support for heart failure.Participated in the design of state of the art Hybrid and Robotic ORs. Involved with planning process for Reading Hospital Healthplex a major clinical building.Led multidisciplinary team's ongoing process improvement program for cardiothoracic surgery.

Successfully advocated for and led the implementation of the STS database to allow for the monitoring of risk adjusted quality metrics in cardiac surgery at our institution.Developed and led process improvement initiatives including Chairing the Morbidity and Mortality Conference for Cardiothoracic Surgery.Performed more than 2,000 cardiac surgical procedures as the primary surgeon. Consistently achieved high quality risk adjusted outcomes in adult cardiac surgical practice as measured and publicly reported by The Pennsylvania Healthcare Cost Containment Council.Facilitated the introduction of innovative techniques into our medical community including thoroscopic surgery, endoscopic vein and radial artery harvesting, and advanced myocardial protection.

Served as the original treasurer from the time of incorporation and was a member of the Board. Obtained and maintained tax exempt status for the organization, directed flow of organizational funds. Coordinated support form corporate donors. Led transition to a hospital participant funded, self supporting, regional quality improvement organization.Participated in sensitive discussions culminating in establishing high levels of inter-institutional trust to facilitate the sharing of risk adjusted morbidity and mortality heart surgery data from from 33 hospitals in a 3 state region.

Currently Known as:The Eastern Cardiothoracic Surgical Society.Enjoyed the support of an enormously talented group of fellow officers, and a superb executive director.Presided over society's annual scientific meeting at The Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island Florida.Developed strategic consensus to broaden membership to cardiothoracic surgeons and allied healthcare providers in our speciality throughout the Northeastern United States. This allowed for a wider range of participants in our scientific and social programs, and prompted the need for an organizational name change consistent with the broadened scope of our mission.

Maintained tax exempt status for this non profit organization. Directed flows of the organization's funds. Maintained the organization's membership directory, and collected membership dues. Supervised organizational fund raising activities including soliciting charitable donations, educational and unrestricted corporate grants. Maintained positive cash-flow, and collected the highest revenues to that point in our history.
