MY SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY Coming out of university, I landed every mechanical engineer’s dream job: design engineer for a global A/E consulting firm. I received my license and moved onto a firm that designed, started-up, and commissioned HVAC systems for pharmaceutical production plants. It was at this firm that I first became aware of companies’ interest in energy conservation as we had been hired to run energy modeling simulations for a healthcare client to help them secure state sponsored interest free bonds for funding energy conservation projects. Four years of MBA night school led to my career change into management consulting specializing in six sigma process improvement and performance management. Years later, looking for a new challenge I stumbled into sustainability; at first driving energy conservation and utilities cost management and then expanding into broader sustainability and ESG topics such as setting and achieving Net Zero goals and driving circularity as stakeholder, shareholder, and regulatory requirements increased in pursuit of protecting the planet.SUSTAINABILITY QUALIFICATIONSI am a broadly skilled sustainability professional with 15 years’ experience delivering energy and water conservation, waste & recycling management / landfill diversion, utilities management, and carbon emissions tracking and reporting. I recruited, staffed, and led a team of 30 sustainability professionals who ran sustainability programs for corporation clients’ real estate portfolios. Over the course of 10 years, we tripled team revenue and size while building a large network of sustainability subject matter experts and sustainability vendors.
