I was a product manager in the UK’s Government Digital Service where I contributed to the delivery, on-going success and continuous improvement of the GOV.UK single domain, leading a multi-disciplinary agile team responsible for delivering information and services used by millions of people each week. I prioritised work based on user needs, interpreting user research in order to make product decisions and ensuring that iterative delivery was underpinned at every stage by effective analysis of qualitative and quantitative user data. While at GDS, I was product owner and interim service manager for the Lasting Power of Attorney service during it's alpha (2012), supporting the Office of the Public Guardian (an agency of the Ministry of Justice) with the early stages of the new service including team building, user research, user testing of initial prototypes and ensuring the policy and legislative aspects of the programme meshed with an agile, user centric approach.I was product owner and interim service manager for the Register to Vote service going from alpha into beta (2012-2013). Working closely with stakeholders and policy owners in Cabinet Office, I led the small user-centred multi-disciplinary agile team who built the alpha and iterated it into a continuously improving beta based on ongoing user research.

I was responsible for all digital projects at W+K London, overseeing an agile team of creative technologists while liaising with senior clients, other agencies and vendors. With a small in-house tech team, I brought in the right people for the job and helped the agency develop a black book of friends of the agency freelancers and other external contacts. I was involved in delivering every aspect of all the digital work at the agency, including several award-winning interactive digital campaigns.

As the portfolio executive for social media at BBC Vision, I owned the BBC’s strategic approach to the intersection between social media and television. Working with teams across the BBC to help shape editorial guidelines and Vision’s strategy for personalisation, participation and community management, I oversaw the launch of dozens of high profile social media offerings including the BBC TV Blog (bbc.co.uk/blogs/tv) as well as owning the editorial and product development of various digital products including experiments such as BBC Buzz and Games Grid. I started this new role with a blank slate, quickly hiring, building up and leading a small team of high-performing producers and editors as well as commissioning and overseeing work from independent external agencies.

As a metaverse evangelist based at IBM’s Hursley Park laboratory, I provided strategy for virtual worlds within IBM’s intranet and championed the use of public virtual worlds by corporate employees. I was a public advocate for the company in virtual worlds, representing IBM at conferences and in the press. An early adopter and key internal enthusiast and evangelist for virtual worlds, I worked with internal teams as well as a variety of clients to help define their commercial use of a variety of different virtual worlds in everything from marketing to internal collaboration.

As an Emerging Technology Services specialist I worked on a wide range of new and innovative solutions for customer problems. I consulted directly for several clients, developing and delivering first-of-a-kind prototypes. When a major bank needed a pervasive messaging solution, complete with a mobile application, to help information exchange between different lines of business, I developed the first prototype. When a large news organisation wanted to deploy ambient (Internet of Things) technology in their London headquarters, I built and installed a combined software and hardware solution based on their existing data feeds, going on-site to install the system.

2003 - 2006, MQTT MicroBroker development, IBM Pervasive Messaging: I was the lead developer in the Pervasive Messaging Technologies team, supporting the development of the open source MQTT protocol as well as reference implementations, while also acting as the technical point of contact for business partners and other software laboratories.2001 - 2003, IBM Business Integration for Games: I was involved with the design and architecture of IBM's Business Integration for Games solution, owning the design and delivery of the process broker server component. 1998 - 2001, IBM WebSphere MQ Everyplace: I contributed to the on-time delivery of WebSphere MQe 1.0 in a test role. Joined MQe level 3 service, fixing defects and attending onsite customer critical situations. In this role I also presented at several customer conferences on MQe and pervasive messaging.
