I am currently the Assistant Director for Learning Technologies at the University of Washington Information School where I work with faculty in the online MLIS program, provide training in the use of a variety of online learning tools; research and implement emerging learning technologies across all aspects of the iSchool and currently, in the process of designing an instructional design process for faculty PhDs.Previously I was the Director of Technology at Bainbridge Island School District. During my tenure with the district my staff and I saved the district hundreds of thousands of dollars by installing and implementing a number of Open Source software applications. I am passionate about instruction and continually try to find new ways for technology to impact teaching and learning.Prior to being the Bainbridge Island Technology Director, I spent 14 years in the classroom as a teacher. During this time I taught a number of subjects including: high school band, percussion, jazz, basic math, biology, advanced ecology, middle school general music, and elementary band. I spent two years as a high school librarian and 4 years teaching Novell Networking to high school students.I have spent over 30 years providing technology professional development for teachers in numerous school districts, universities, corporate environments and have presented at a number of technology conferences. My passion is Open Source applications and many consider me to be a master in the use of Moodle, an Open Source Course management System and Canvas, the leading LMS.
