Heavy plant and crane fitter for the Antarctic improvement and modernisation programme at Rothera Research Station. Carry out planned and preventative maintenance as well as breakdown cover to crawler cranes, mobile cranes, excavators, dozers, ADT’s, graders, rollers, loading shovels, Mewps and crushing and screening equipment. Carry out LOLER inspections on the above, as well as thorough inspection of all lifting equipment on site.

Part of Rowans Roaming Maintenance team covering Europe and North Africa. Duties include the service, repair and overhaul of jack up rigs hydraulic and mechanical equipment, including (but not limited to): Medium speed marine diesel engines and generators, Surface well control equipment and associated control systems, drawworks, top drives, Pipe handlers, Deck cranes and knuckle boom cranes I am also required to: Maintain records and logs as required by the company. Write detailed reports on equipment failures, equipment performance and maintenance history. Maintain SAP maintenance system. Make up work plans for crews and make sure that parts, tools, equipment and documentation are available for the work to be performed. Plan works before work commences and manage hazards effectively. Assign work to Motormen and ensure that work was carried out to high standards.

Inspect assemble and test prototype fuel injection systems for heavy duty diesel engines. Maintain high pressure hydraulic (3000 Bar) test rigs and engine test cells. Keep detailed records of build and test data. Design jigs and fixtures used on the test rigs. Manufacture jigs and fixtures using precision machine tooling (lathe, milling machine, drilling machine, surface grinder, cylindrical grinder etc.).Maintain inventory of tools, equipment & Fuel Injection samples in the Development Workshops.

Part of a small team running an isolated research station on the Brunt Ice Shelf, Antarctica. Engineering Duties included fault finding, repair & servicing of all essential services on base including; Combined heat and power diesel/electrical generating plant, potable water treatment equipment, sewage treatment equipment, fuel storage and fuel pumping machinery , air handling, HVAC equipment and fire suppression systems. Carried out pipe fitting (threaded and welded) from 1/2" to 6" and manufactured components in the Machine/fabrication shop. Good working knowledge of the base electrical distribution system was essential in order to assist the Electrical Technician and to ensure that I was able to cover his duties if he was unavailable. Along with the above duties listed I was also appointed as a member of the Search and Rescue Team, fire fighting team and selected as an advanced first aider

Plan, organise and oversee engineering projects throughout ABP South Wales as well as assisting with the day to day running of the engineering departments which included the issuing of permits to work and isolation certification. Also carried out inspection and testing (to British Standards) of; crane structures and machinery, lighting towers and all lifting and slinging equipment.

Fitter/Turner in busy port environment. Carried out planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance on; electro-hydraulic and diesel-hydraulic dockside, mobile & pedestal cranes, hydraulic lock gate machinery , high output water pumps and valves, moving roller and cantilever bridges and all mobile plant. Overhauled and Refurbished lifting equipment and machinery in the workshop to an as new standard. Also carried out confined space work within lock gate flotation chambers . Produced new and modified components using machine shop tooling ( i.e., lathe, milling machine, drill, shaper, broachers, etc) Carried out MMA, MIG welding, flame cutting and fabrication on site, aboard vessels and in the workshop.
