Rory is a contaminated land specialist with twenty years’ experience in the fields of environmental consulting, research and instrumentation. His principal areas of expertise are environmental site assessment, chlorinated solvent investigations, vapour intrusion studies, vapour intrusion mitigation systems, human health and environmental risk assessment, contaminant fate and transport modelling, and general environmental chemistry. Rory has worked in both Australia and the UK where he has conducted numerous site assessments and risk assessments involving a wide variety of contamination issues and land use scenarios. Rory has a particular interest in chlorinated hydrocarbon contaminated sites where his skills and experience encompass groundwater and soil vapour investigations, risk assessment, and the design, installation and commissioning of aerated floor vapour intrusion mitigation systems .Since 2015 Rory has managed the ongoing environmental investigations conducted by BlueSphere for Renewal SA at the 62 hectare former Mitsubishi Tonsley vehicle manufacturing site in Adelaide. This has included large scale groundwater and soil vapour investigations (principally related to TCE) which have enabled resolution of a complex conceptual site model comprising multiple groundwater plumes and contaminant sources. Rory was the lead author of the Conceptual Site Model Report and has since been the lead author of a series of Detailed Site Investigation reports, Human Health and Environmental Risk Assessments and Remediation Options Assessments for various portion of the site. As of 2022, Rory is managing an ongoing TCE groundwater remediation program which is using the Enhanced Biodegradation technique to address a TCE source zone associated with the former Electroplating Workshop on the site. This work has been instrumental in helping to unlock large portions so the site for development as the former vehicle manufacturing site transformed into the Tonsley Innovation District.
