About Rory Somers

I have been employed as a business analyst since 2010, working in the hospitality and retail industries. During this time I have honed my analytic skills and have developed a very thorough understanding of various reporting software as well as becoming highly proficient in the MS suite. I have built a reputation as a colleague who is patient, understanding and always willing to help anyone to further develop their skills or improve their workflow process. Process improvement and workflow streamlining are two areas that I am very skilled. An excellent communicator with experience of reporting to and working with all levels of the business from executive to branch managers.I could very easily, and correctly, be described as a geek; I enjoy reading with a predilection towards speculative fiction, which as a younger man tumbled into comic books. I studied Creative Writing at University with the dream of one day becoming a publish author. I am a very active table top game enthusiast, but I also enjoy running, cycling and I also study Kung-Fu. More than anything though, I am a new father to a wonderful little boy and an older father to my two four legged furry boys.

This included periodic society KPI reports (presented at AGMs), Share of Profit reports, sales and performance reports (Healthcare), stock management (Retail) agency employment (Childcare), theft and damage reports (legal & insurance) as well as technical and system performance support for each group of the business.Interfacing new software – data shaping, modelling and UAT for implementation of new finance software (IFS). Report building and process improvement were a key aspect of the role, predominantly using Excel and SAP Business Objects – this was highly client specific which meant establishing client expectations/needs/requirements, future proofing, problem planning and creating in depth/useful “friendly” user guides (RACI).
