As the Officer Selection Officer in Champaign IL, I was in charge of Marine Officer Recruiting for central Illinois, covering University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Illinois State University, Western Illinois University, Eastern Illinois University, and Bradley University, among others. My role was to plan, direct, and execute all recruiting operations to attract, retain, and train talented candidates for roles as Marine Officers in the Fleet Marine Force. -The Basic School is a six month course designed to educate newly commissioned Marine Officers in the subjects of platoon command, mission planning fundamentals, weapons and tactics, land navigation and map-reading techniques, battlefield medicine, and other topics. At the end of The Basic School, these Marine Officers are slated for specific jobs and immediately assigned to that specific training course.
