A role in Envy's finishing support team has enabled me to focus my attention towards developing competence and a heightened awareness of broadcast standards in specific areas. Conforming and Pregrading native material in Avid forms a central part of my schedule, with the goal to prepare media and set up projects for a Baselight grade. This, while providing assistance to Online Editors and Colourists, through the ingest and conforming of additional material, round tripping graded shots into Online, playing out masters to tape and performing full visual quality checks prior to delivery. The workflows employed have forced a reacquaintance with VTR's and further expanded my ability to handle multiple large scale long form projects while under the pressure of impending client deadlines and operator schedules.

Arriving in London to start in a busy and thriving post house provided numerous challenges and rapid growth opportunities. Turning my attention to long form taught me new skills and contributed towards developing defined sensibilities and a core comprehension of workflows, in the assisting and completion of sizeable programmes for broadcast. Combining these attributes with the perfectionism previously required in commercials lifted my skill base, particularly in the areas of encoding, QC, delivery and VT operation.My key responsibilities included providing assistance to all systems within the Technical Operations department and subsequently communicating with all departments across the company, whether it be Offline, Online, Grade or QC to ensure they had the resources required to complete their work. Daily tasks involved file and media management, project creation, ingesting media from various sources, troubleshooting, audio syncing, grouping, conforming, pregrading, as well as encoding for specific requirements, AAF and EDL creation, DVD Authoring, FTP management and LTO Archiving. While Halo adopted file based workflows during my time there, I was still required to perform tape ingests, lay backs, play outs, insert edits and dubs of HDSR, HDCAM and Digital Betacam formats.I also became involved in training and assisting junior members of staff, providing the space for assessing, improving and documenting workflows within the Technical Operations department. The steps involved in DPP package creation and delivery were a major part of this, by its nature requiring an ever-changing awareness of software bugs and station requirements.

No files were ingested or delivered without the utmost scrutiny.I was tasked with operating VTRs, disk recorders, servers, hardware systems and software applications to download, assess, monitor, record, troubleshoot, prepare, convert, dub, compress, transfer, master, quality check, upload, and deliver data to defined and appropriate technical standards and formats for the efficient and successful production and distribution of projects for all media.I assisted Compositors, Colourists, Editors, Animation and Production crew to prepare, conform and upload rushes. Prepared EDLs, shots, plates, data and other materials for bookings. Archived and mastered completed sequences, scenes or projects upon completion.
