As the brewer at Sweat Shop Rory is responsible for all areas of production, from brewing and overseeing fermentation to planning production, preventative maintenance, ensuring area hygiene and quality control. Rory's role also extends to training other staff in brewing operations and spear heading the promotion of the products. This involves holding brewery experiences and engaging with customers about the beer and the brewery.

As trainee brewer Rory was gained more responsibilities in many brewery aspects over the course of this job. Rory was proficient in the operations and maintenance of the brewhouse, continuous fermentation plant, bright beer filter and fermentation cellars. Monitoring the wastewater treatment plant and running it to ensure waste was treated completely and efficiently was also a task of Rory's, as was all related environmental consent monitoring and reporting processes. Auditing of brewery and laboratory processes was another role that Rory undertook.

Rory was a laboratory technician and the coordinator of our sensory department. As a technician his job involved general wet chemistry and bench top instrument analyses through to general data recording and archiving practices that you would expect in a lab that performs to an ISO equivalent standard. Implementing this ISO based Heineken standard was a major part of Rory's role, especially with developing QA systems and methods for the sensory department. Overseeing these systems and training others in their use was an ongoing part of Rory's role.

As the Odour Technician Rory was in charge of odour lab operations and collected odour samples from industrial and commercial locations. As the coordinator of odour lab operations Rory managed a group of nine casually employed staff members as his sample analysers, including weekly rostering and dispute mediation.Through his odour lab coordination Rory would liaise with clients to organise sampling and would manage his lab operations around these.Upkeep of ISO:17025.5 and IANZ standards was paramount to this job.
